Pricing

What does a website cost in Norway in 2026? Honest numbers

The answer ranges from zero to over a hundred thousand kroner – and that is not because the market is impenetrable, but because "a website" can mean five entirely different things. Here are the real price ranges, what drives the price, and what you should check before you sign anything.

The honest answer: from zero to over a hundred thousand

There is no fixed market price for a website, and anyone who promises you a single number without asking what you need is guessing. The spectrum looks roughly like this:

  • Free platforms: You can set up a simple site for free, but you get limitations – ads, the provider's domain name, little control over features and little flexibility as the business grows.
  • Website builders (subscription): Tools where you set up the site yourself for a monthly fee. Cheap to begin with, but you pay every month, for as long as the site is up – and you often pay for capacity you don't use.
  • Freelancers: Simple websites from a few thousand kroner and upwards. The price varies a lot with experience, scope and how much work goes into the copy and design.
  • Agencies: From tens of thousands of kroner and upwards, occasionally over a hundred thousand for large projects with bespoke design, integrations and extensive strategy work.

None of these are "wrong". But they solve different needs, and it is the price difference between them that means you should know what you are actually buying before you compare quotes.

What actually drives the price

When two quotes for "the same thing" can sit ten times apart in price, it is usually because one of them contains more work. These are the factors that matter most:

  • Number of pages – a one-pager and a website with twenty subpages are two very different amounts of work.
  • Unique design vs. template – a design drawn specifically for you costs more than a standard template that gets adapted.
  • Copywriting – are you writing all the text yourself, or should someone structure and write it for you? Copywriting is often underestimated.
  • Features – a contact form is simple; an online store, payment and booking systems require considerably more.
  • Scope of SEO – basic search engine optimisation (titles, descriptions, structure) should be included in every package; deeper work costs more.
  • Who is going to run it afterwards – whether you should be able to update the content yourself, or whether changes go through the supplier, affects both the choice of solution and the price.

Fixed price vs. hourly rate – what you should ask about

Many agencies and freelancers bill by the hour. That is not unprofessional, but it leaves you as the customer with uncertainty: you don't know what the final bill will be until the work is done, and the longer the project goes on, the more expensive it gets. A fixed price up front moves the risk to where it belongs – with the supplier.

Whatever the pricing model, you should have answers to these questions before you sign:

  • What is included in the price – and what is not included?
  • Who owns the code and the domain when the project is finished?
  • What does it cost to request a change later on?
  • Are there monthly costs – and if so, to whom and for what?

If the supplier cannot answer these four concretely, you have probably found the reason the quote seemed "too good to be true".

Before you sign a quote: ask for the TOTAL PRICE including all monthly costs for the first year. The total is the only price that counts.

Our price list – with no hidden costs

We use a fixed price for everything. You know what it costs before we start, and there is no monthly cost to us. The table below shows the real prices (excl. VAT):

PackageWhat you getPrice excl. VAT
NettVisittOne-pager with contact details, SEO foundationNOK 5 500
NettStartSimple website, up to ~5 pagesNOK 10 000
NettMaksLarger website with all your contentNOK 20 000
NettButikkWebsite with Stripe paymentNOK 35 000
NettSynSEO & visibility for an existing websiteNOK 3 500

Two running costs exist no matter who you use: hosting, which is a separate monthly fee to a hosting provider (normally a few tens of kroner a month), and the domain, which costs a small amount per year. Both are small items – but you should still have them stated, because that is where hidden costs otherwise hide.

Hidden costs to watch out for

The most expensive website is not always the one with the highest price tag. We regularly see these patterns in the industry:

  • A monthly "maintenance agreement" you never asked for – a fixed monthly item for "operation and maintenance" that turns up in the contract, without you ever agreeing on what it actually covers.
  • The code is owned by the agency – some suppliers keep the rights to your site. If you want to move, you have to pay to "buy yourself out" or rebuild everything from scratch.
  • An extra charge for every tiny change – changing an opening hour or an image costs an invoice every time, because the solution is built so that only the supplier can change it.
  • SEO sold separately – basic search engine optimisation is part of building a website properly, not an add-on product. Be sceptical if it is priced as a separate extra from day one.

So what should YOU pay?

Start with the need, not the price. If you need customers to be able to find you and get in touch, a simple site does the job. If you are going to sell goods online, you need more. Define what the site should do for your business – then you can assess quotes against that.

Furthermore: ask for a fixed price up front, and ask the four questions above. And finally – don't pay for more than you need. A simple, well-built website that you own yourself beats an expensive one you are locked into. You can always expand later; paying for capacity that sits unused is far more expensive.
